Just some quick snapshots of the fall colors taken during a hike a friend and I did on the Old Rag Trail today. The trailhead begins at the base of the mountain range that makes up Shenandoah National Park. The bouldering on the top section is amazing, and the whole thing is one of the best day hikes I’ve ever done. For anyone in Virginia/D.C./Baltimore, it’s worth the drive!

Scary fun at the Jaycees Haunted House in downtown Fredericksburg.
Shot most of these with the flash, many with a red gel. Others were a result of cool Haunted House lighting. Fun times…

Went to the Flugtag in Baltimore the other weekend. At one point these skydivers jumped out of a helicopter and plunged earthward at seemingly suicidal speeds.
We see airplanes and helicopters buzzing over our heads and don’t really bother to look up anymore. It’s so normal, so everyday. But three flying humans…that’ll get 60,000 people to stop everything and stare straight up….

Elvis Impersonator competition held at Courtland High School on October 23rd. Elvii from all over the country entered this regional qualifier for the nationals in Memphis this May. The overall winner, Bennie Wheels, was chosen by panel of judges. The competition was a benefit for the Childrens Miracle Network.
This was a fun daily assignment. All access, friendly subjects, emotion, etc. The audience, mostly women in their 50’s, was going absolutely crazy for these guys.

For “The Deal” section. Business owner profile.
When Donna Williams turned 51 in 2002, she found out she had cancer. After a successful surgery to beat it, she reevaluated her life. “One thing I always wanted but never had was a convertible.” Williams bought her bright red Ford Mustang Cobra from her daughter with only 10,000 miles on it. A downhill skiing enthusiast as well, she loves the speed. “I like to go fast in this thing,” said Williams “Now, I want to trade this in for a Viper.” Donna Williams is the co-owner of ServiceMaster in Fredericksburg with her husband Danny.

A writer and I spent s shift with the guys from the Fredericksburg Fire Department. It was fun, although I think it would be great to go back a few times and make it into a more in-depth story.

More Redskins football. Redskins win in overtime over Jaguars with a winning touchdown run by Santana Moss (2nd from the bottom).
This was a blast to shoot as well. I’m getting way better a shooting football, and I got some decent frames out of this one. I used two bodies with the Nikon 400mm and the 80-200mm on. Good stuff. More daily assignment stuff coming soon…

Claire Winkler, 13, was a local girl who made it on Kid Jeopardy. Did these portraits of her for a big layout about her experience on the show. Great page design went with it…
