Nazi March

—
On March 10th, 2007, members of the National Socialist Movement, a Neo-Nazi group from Minnesota, held a march in Columbia, Missouri, my town. The reaction to them was intense and filled with hatred, which led the march to descend into some confrontations with the police.
On a personal level, this was hard for me to shoot. I despise racism in all its forms and incarnations and believe that hate speech is a terrible force in this country. At the same time, I believe in Free Speech, and that everyones opinion is valid. So while I hated these Neo-Nazi’s I also didn’t sympathize with those taunting and hurling cuss filled tirades back at them. The Constitution is alive and well….
Sky
Sky, I really like the second photo. It’s got nice light/composition. It’s got impact. Great overall coverage of the event. And congrats on Ventura!!!!!
Right on dude. That fourth one is KILLER. You got some good shit dude. I want to see some. Great colors man, i envy that full frame 16mm. Hey, check my shit out if you have a chance home boy. Peace www.brandonkruse.blogspot.com
ps I meant to say I want to see some MORE. Anyways, peace baller.
nice work Sky. I really like the second to last and the first couple. I feel the tension. That lens makes the dude’s hand crazy warped in the second photo, but I think it helps to emphasize that symbol of being a Nazi. And yeah, fighting hate with hate is like fucking for virginity…it just doesn’t work.
Everything has already been said.
Concur with Fredman, Kruse and Tully.
you’re so close to them that i feel like i’m going to puke. but that’s a compliment.
Great photos Sky, as repugnant as the subjects are, it makes me sad to see such hatred expressed on both sides, as you stated. But free speech is alive..
Yea….CONGRADS ON VENTURA…. PEACE
Very nice work — I especially like the first one
You said you think everyone’s opinion is valid. That would suggest you agree with everyone. Perhaps you meant that it’s valid for everyone to HAVE an opinion, and to be allowed to voice publicly?
Awesome coverage, by the way.
Joel,
To say that everyones opinion is valid does not mean I agree with them. The word valid has nothing to do with my beliefs. It simply means each side has a point of view that leads to a logical conclusion in their mind. Yes, “valid for everyone to have an opinion” would be more grammatically correct for what I was trying to get across, but again no, I don’t agree with everyone.
I figured. How ya’ doin’?
They’re all right.
Just blogging through, thought I’d leave a comment.
Great photos. That had to be a tough gig to cover. The second one and the second from the bottom really stand out to me. Nice job.
while it was hard to taking photos on this happening for you, born very great photos!!
