Hairstylist Lexie Tyler jokes with US Navy veteran Bill Wilson, while giving him a free haircut at the 2007 Ventura County Stand Down at the National Guard Armory in Ventura on Friday, July 27, 2007. The Stand Down is an annual event where hundreds of volunteers from various organizations throughout Southern California come together to offer a weekend of refuge and support for homeless and disabled veterans. The veterans stay overnight in a makeshift camp at the armory, and are able to receive medical and social services, food, showers, and a safe place to sleep.
